Students live and work at Young Ranch, a research property owned and operated by the University of New Mexico. Young Ranch is located in lower Cochiti Canyon, in the southeastern Jemez Mountains, in the base of a wooded valley floor, shared with apple orchards, that is flanked by steep cliffs of lower Pleistocene ignimbrites. The Ranch is ideally located for taking access to the diverse volcanic features for which the Jemez Mountains are well known. The buildings at the ranch are historic, territorial-style adobe houses constructed in the late 1920's.
