This is your regular paragraph text.
To use this template (and make it into your "home" page) do the following:
To have the page auto-load on our server when users put in a url to the folder which contains it, you must name the page "home.htm". I would suggest keeping a copy of the template intact, since it does contain some helpful information about how to make your pages work correctly.
This is regular text for your content. Please note that in most cases the included graphics on the page will not appear while you are editing. This is because the links are done so that they will work from any subfolder on our server. If you preview the page in your web browser, it will reserve a blank space exactly the same size as the graphic. Here is the linking trick:
It is always best to create and troubleshoot your pages in an offline location (your personal network folder or a folder on your own computer) using relative rather than absolute links, then copy your finished product to the server (rather than attempting to edit things on the server). To see how this template page looks when online, connect your web browser to view the Template online at epswww.unm.edu/template.htm. All linked graphics will appear when the page is actually on our server.
If possible, avoid making web pages with Microsoft Word. It makes bloated code and can do very strange things with fonts and formatting. They are also difficult to impossible for your friendly webmaster to modify or repair if there is something wrong. See Jim Connolly for suggestions about Web editors and how to safely edit your pages.
This template is designed to be used on our new framed web pages. On our web site, there is a header frame on the top of the page (with our "bar" logo), and a "menu" on the left, with the main content pages taking up everything else. All links will open by default in the "main" page leaving the other frames as-is. This includes the link to UNM's home page below. This works best on monitors with 600 x 800 resolution (or better). For users who have low resolution (640 x 480) monitors (or who just hate frames) there is a link at the top of the page which will reopen the page in its own window, full screen. To make this work with your own page, you need to replace the "template.htm" in the link with the filename of your page (i.e., "home.htm" when you save it. To avoid user-confusion, this link should be removed from other pages which are linked on your main page.
This page uses a standard style sheet to achieve a uniform look for our pages. It uses a Sans-serif (i.e., no serif) font style, a gray background and custom colors for the links. The style is applied through the style sheet eps.css which is a standard ASCII text file. The template pulls the style sheet from the same folder as your page (which is why you should copy it with the template). I'd suggest not changing this scheme as we are going for a standard look. You should not specify custom fonts within your page. If you do choose to change the colors, make sure that they are readable.
To use the style sheet on the department server (instead of the one you copied locally), just put a forward slash in front of the link to eps.css (i.e., &;quot:/eps.css") just before you upload it to our server. If you need help with use of the style sheet stuff, see Jim Connolly.
At a minimum, the page should contain the return link to the EPS Department home page (welcome.htm). Do not use "home.htm" as this will produce a frames-within-frames result which is ugly and confusing. A sample link (with graphic) is given below. Pages without this link will not be listed on the EPS Server.
To be referred to on UNM's home page, there must a link to (http://www.unm.edu). A functional sample is also shown below. Most of our EPS pages will not require this link.
Important Note: All links on this page will open within the current window or frame. If it is the "main" frame, links will change the content of only that frame. If it is in its own window, links will change the content in that window.
