For students to get the most out of their field trip experience, we offer pre-, during-, and post-fieldtrip activities based on the New Mexico Science Standards. You may also take an internet tour of our virtual exhibit, “Looking at the Solar System Through a Microscope” We have found that students who are well prepared for their field trip show more interest in our museums and ask more meaningful questions. The Geology Museums are visited by thousands of people each year, including public school classes. Teachers, please call the UNM Department of Earth and Planetary Science, 505-277-4204 to schedule class visits. The Meteorite Museum is open 9:00 – 4:00 p.m., Monday to Friday. The Geology Museum is open 7:30 – 12:00 a.m. and 1:00 – 4:30 p.m, Monday to Friday. Both Museums are closed on Saturday, Sunday and UNM Holidays.

The
Meteorite Museum and Geology Museums at the University of New
Mexico offer unique opportunities for students to see meteorites,
minerals, rocks, and fossils, and information about their origin.
If the teacher requests well ahead of time, students may also
get to meet one of the scientists — and learn more about
this exciting field.
