WELCOME
to the METEORITE MUSEUM at the UNIVERSITY
OF NEW MEXICO |
The Meteorite Museum is located in Northrop Hall on the Main Campus
of the University of New Mexico. It houses many meteorites from
the extensive collection of the Institute of Meteoritics. The
highlight of the Museum is a one-ton piece of the stony meteorite,
Norton County, that fell in Kansas in 1948.
|
| The theme of our exhibit is
“Looking at the Solar System through a Microscope." Our
displays show how scientists learn about asteroids, comets, the
Moon and Mars by studying samples that have fallen to Earth from
space, as well as samples that have been collected by spacecraft
missions. |
| We invite you to take a Virtual
Tour of our Museum, and to learn more about our Solar System
and beyond. To step inside, click on the image top left. Enjoy your
visit! |
