Laboratory Mission

Mission:

The primary mission of the laboratory is to support research and teaching programs at the Earth and Planetary Sciences Department (E&PS). The secondary mission is to support research and teaching programs for different departments and institutes at the University of New Mexico (UNM).

The purpose of the laboratory is also to teach faculty, staff, and students on the proper use and operation of highly sophisticated computer controlled analytical instruments and the application of approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) with Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC). The laboratory is set up to aid faculty, staff, and students with their research programs related to chemistry, geochemistry, environmental sciences and engineering, material sciences, and biological and molecular biology and technology sciences. The laboratory also provides support for other UNM Departments, other universities, government (federal, state, and city) agencies, private companies.

The laboratory also can perform analytical work for individuals or companies outside of UNM on a contract basis as long as it does not interfere with the primary educational mission of the facility.
