Research and Academic Interests:

My main research interests are understanding the Earth and other planets in terms of their internal structures, composition, and dynamics through high pressure(P)-temperature(T) laboratory experiments. Such laboratory data are essential for geodynamical modeling and interpretation of geophysical observations, in particular, the results of seismological studies of Earth’s internal velocity structure. Specifically, I am interested in sound velocity measurements on minerals and rocks to quantify the compositional variations inside the Earth from a mineralogical perspective and start constructing a 2D or 3D mineralogical model of the Earth’s interior. I am also interested in other important dynamical processes in the Earth and planetary interiors, for example, element partitioning between coexisting mineral phases in planetary bodies, recycling of lithospheric materials through subduction and delamination, deep earthquake generation, etc. In addition, I have a materials science interest in phononic crystals, which potentially have applications in heat transfer.
