Waste trap for BrF₅. The trap is a stainless steel bottle with a conflat flange and two 1/4" entry ports. It is chilled with liquid nitrogen. The sample chamber can be pumped through the bottle after it has been evacuated. The use of the bottle prevents any BrF₅ from getting into the pump. The trap is purged of excess reagent at the end of the day by switching the position of the two three-way valves. Nitrogen gas is slowly passed through the chamber as it thaws, the flow passing through a large tub filled with CaO in a fume hood. Excess fluorine is neutralized by the CaO tank.
