Waste trap for BrF5.
The trap is a stainless steel bottle with a conflat flange and
two 1/4" entry ports. It is chilled with liquid nitrogen.
The sample chamber can be pumped through the bottle after it has
been evacuated. The use of the bottle prevents any BrF5
from getting into the pump. The trap is purged of excess reagent
at the end of the day by switching the position of the two
three-way valves. Nitrogen gas is slowly passed through the
chamber as it thaws, the flow passing through a large tub filled
with CaO in a fume hood. Excess fluorine is neutralized by the
CaO tank.
