• Formation of sedimentary basins: Problem set using algebraic and numerical solutions of equations governing the formation of rift and foreland basins
• Fluid mechanics formulations: Problem set emphasizing derivation and manipulation of fundamental mathematical expressions governing behavior of fluids and transport of sediment.
• Paleohydraulics: Collection of outcrop data in the Santa Fe Group on Edith Blvd., Albuquerque, are utilized to reconstruct hydraulics of flow for the early Pleistocene Rio Grande; interpretation and hydraulic interpretation of sedimentary structures produced by unidirectional flow.

• Stratigraphy of a heterogeneous aquifer: Collection of outcrop data in the Miocene Tesuque Formation near Española, New Mexico, with an emphasis on interpretation of depositional processes/environment and implications for understanding sedimentological controls on aquifer heterogeneity.

• Turbidite depositional dynamics: Numerical simulation (using existing computer programs) of turbidite deposition under different hydraulic conditions with an emphasis on understanding the relationship between flow characteristics and the thickness and sedimentary structures in the resulting deposit.
• Cretaceous sequence stratigraphy: Field trip to evaluate sequence stratigraphy of Upper Cretaceous shallow-marine and deltaic strata in the eastern San Juan Basin, New Mexico.
